Welcome to the latest update from the Get Ready Queensland team, which has key information about Get Ready Queensland Week and the new Get Ready Queensland website.

Get Ready Queensland Week

Get Ready Queensland Week 2019 will run from 13 to 19 October and we’ve made it our mission to spread the word about the importance of getting ready for severe weather and disasters.

Last disaster season, Queenslanders were impacted by a whopping 11 severe weather events. This year, we’re already experiencing an early start to the season with bushfires recently impacting our South East Queensland communities.

The Queensland Government and Get Ready Queensland Ambassador Johnathan Thurston are urging all Queenslanders to check their ‘WHAT-IF?’ plan and get ready to respond if disaster strikes.

Johnathan Thurston will help launch Get Ready Queensland Week on Monday 14 October 2019 with a media event in King George Square, Brisbane. This event will also coincide with the release of the Bureau of Meteorology’s Cyclone and Severe Weather Outlook for 2019-20.

We have prepared some communication material we would love for you to share on your social media channels and newsletters.  The material outlined below can be downloaded from the Get Ready Queensland website.

•    Get Ready Queensland key messages and newsletter copy
•    Get Ready Queensland social media messages, tiles and videos
•    Get Ready Queensland email banners

As previously advised, the Get Ready Queensland advertising campaign featuring Johnathan Thurston on radio and social media channels starts on Sunday 13 October 2019.

This year’s campaign will also feature television advertisements in the Mackay, Townsville, Cairns and remote signal markets.

The Get Ready Queensland team is aware a range of councils have activities planned for Get Ready Queensland Week and we would love to share your successful events on social media as well. If you are posting photos of your events, please tag @getreadyqueensland on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtag #getreadyqueensland with your posts.

Good luck with all of your activities and we look forward to seeing and hearing all about them.

New Get Ready Queensland website

We are pleased to announce that the new Get Ready Queensland website is now live.

Following a major redevelopment, the site is now able to more effectively communicate, demonstrate and educate Queenslanders on disaster preparedness.

A key focus when designing new functionality for the website was to make it easier for the user to find the information that is most relevant to them and where they live.

The ‘find your local council page' provides a search capability which will connect the user to their local council’s disaster dashboard or homepage in just one click.

In addition, the ‘protect what’s most important to you’ search tool makes researching disaster preparedness easy, gathering together all the relevant information on the site for the user based on their selection of lifestyle categories.

With an emphasis on visual communication, the site simplifies disaster preparedness and caters to all Queenslanders – long term residents, those who have newly arrived and visitors.

The new website has also allowed us to create the Council Hub. This is a dedicated Get Ready Queensland portal for all local councils, providing program guidance, updates, news, ideas and shared resources including the image library, refreshed branded resources and the new Get Ready Queensland booklets (consolidated factsheets). All councils are able to access the hub via the following private link: https://www.getready.qld.gov.au/council-hub.

Take a look around and let us know what you think.

 Who else should stay connected?

If you know someone who didn't receive this email, let us know so we don't miss them next time.
