The first step in being prepared is to have a Get Ready plan.

An emergency and evacuation plan will ensure everyone in your household knows exactly what to do if the worst happens. You might want to involve your neighbours in developing your plan - neighbours who are elderly or have special needs may need your assistance. Equally, neighbours may also provide assistance to your household if required.

On this page you’ll find Get Ready Queensland’s online household emergency and evacuation plan that you can fully adapt to your household’s circumstances, download and print.

Before you plan, you need to understand your risk

The best way to Get Ready is to understand your local potential risks and make a plan for them before they occur.  If you’re not sure what you should be planning for, check out these pages.

Household emergency and evacuation plan explained

Your household emergency and evacuation plan is a hardcopy document that is designed to keep you and your household members connected and safe in the event you become separated during a natural disaster and/ or you lose mobile phone connectivity and access to your contact phone numbers.

In the event you need to evacuate the home, the plan also provides a checklist of actions to be completed to ensure your home and your most valuable possessions are as secure as possible.

The plan is designed to be kept somewhere central and visible (like the kitchen fridge) and for each household member to have one with them at all times (in school bags, handbags or work satchels).

Details you will need to include in your plan

Before you start completing your online plan, you will need to have the following details available to include when prompted on the form.
