Queenslanders encouraged to Get Ready for storm and cyclone season

12 October 2020

Get Ready Queensland week was launched on 12 October 2020 to encourage communities to prepare ahead of the disaster season. Get Ready Queensland Week is all about making disaster preparedness front of mind before the next disaster, so that people have peace of mind that they have done all they can ahead of severe weather.

Almost half (44 per cent) of Queenslanders say they will wait for an actual or impending disaster to get prepared, which means many people would be caught out for fast onset disasters such as bushfire, severe storm and flash flooding.

Get Ready Queensland research

Get Ready Queensland undertook state-wide market research in June 2020 to understand community attitudes about disaster risk and preparedness throughout Queensland. The Get Ready Queensland research shows how people’s attitudes towards disaster risk is Impacting community resilience.
