Get Ready Checklist

We all should be prepared for severe weather at any time. But, when there is talk of a cyclone in our waters, it’s a good reminder to take positive steps now to Get Ready.

  • Identify the strongest room in your home to shelter in during storms and cyclones so you’ll know where you will stay.
  • Understand where and how to turn off the main supply for water, power, gas and solar panels and batteries in case you need to. Your system’s installer or manufacturer can help if you have questions about how.
  • Make any arrangements you will need to make for pets or livestock.
    • Fuel up your car and have it ready to go in case you need to evacuate.
  • Caravans and boats should be secured safely.

When sheltering at home, go to the strongest room in the house. It should be an internal room that is away from windows or glass doors, like a bathroom, walk-in wardrobe, or hallway.

Take with you:

🐶 Everyone in your home, including pets.

🎒 Your emergency kit, drinking water 💧, phones 📱, and devices 🔋.

🎲 Games and other distractions, as well as pillows and bedding —you may need to stay there for several hours.

🎧 Noise-cancelling headphones for anyone who needs them. Outside will be noisy, like a roaring engine.

🪟 A mattress or heavy blanket to cover any windows if needed.

Do not leave this space – the eye of the cyclone 🌀 will be quiet, and you may think it’s over. It’s most likely not! Being near doors or windows can be dangerous.

Stay safe 🙏 and listen to emergency services and local weather updates through your local radio or via www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/
