Get Ready Queensland Week 2026
Monday 5 – Sunday 11 October 2026
Queensland weather keeps us on our toes - from cyclones in the north to floods in the south-east and bushfires out west. That’s why every year, Get Ready Queensland Week is your chance to stop, think, and take some simple steps to get prepared.
From Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October, communities right across our state will be coming together for a week of activities designed to help Queenslanders get ready for extreme weather and disasters.
Queensland, it's the perfect time to be prepared and Get Queensland Ready by getting your Severe Weather Preparedness Checklist .
What’s happening across the state?
Councils, schools, and community groups will be running events big and small - so there’ll be something near you, whether you’re in the city, the bush, or on the coast. Look out for:
Community expos and preparedness stalls - a chance to chat with emergency services, see demonstrations, and pick up practical resources.
School workshops - helping the next generation of Queenslanders learn about resilience in fun and hands-on ways.
Emergency services displays - meet your local SES volunteers, fire crews, and first responders and learn how they help in times of disaster.
Local media and social campaigns - keep an eye on your council or community Facebook pages for preparedness tips.
Why Get Ready Queensland Week matters
Queenslanders know that it’s not a matter of if severe weather hits - but when. We’ve seen how a summer storm can cut power for days, how a cyclone can isolate communities, or how flash flooding can make roads dangerous in minutes.
Getting Queensland ready for severe weather starts with simple actions we can all take, from talking to your neighbours about their experiences and needs to bookmarking your local council disaster dashboard.
Choose an action and start today.
Set up weather alerts from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) or your local council.
Bookmark your local council disaster dashboard.
Check your insurance to make sure you have the right coverage.
Talk to your neighbours.
Have enough medication and up-to-date scripts. Creative opportunity: feature an older or medically vulnerable person, including someone who uses oxygen or has mobility support needs.
Include your pets and other animals in your emergency plan.
Have a “what if” chat with everyone you care for.
Create an emergency contact list and add the contacts to your plan.
Keep your gutters, roof and downpipes clear.
Check or update your emergency kit against a checklist, including sufficient food and water for at least five days. Creative cue: visibly tick off the checklist.
Include spare batteries and charged power banks in your kit.
Include a battery-operated radio in your kit.
Store important documents in a waterproof wallet or back them up on your computer.
How you can get involved
Here are a few easy ways to join in:
