| The 2025 Get Ready Queensland Week Evaluation Report provides an overview of statewide engagement activities delivered across 32 Local Government Areas, highlighting key achievements, community reach, and lessons learned. The report captures participation outcomes from 55 community events, insights from regional visits, and the impact of targeted engagement with priority groups. |
A cornerstone of the GRQ program is Get Ready Queensland Week, it stands as a highlight on the disaster management calendar every year. The weeklong events are a statewide call to action, amplifying the message of preparedness and building momentum across three key focus areas.
Key focus areas
| Building partnerships that matter: Strengthening relationships with councils, agencies and community leaders to promote a united approach to preparedness and resilience. | |
| Boosting awareness: Enhancing understanding of councils & GRQ’s role, increasing visibility, and sharing accessible tools and resources to support community readiness. | |
| Driving action: Encouraging Queenslanders to take the three Steps to Get Ready by turning awareness into measurable preparedness behaviours. |
In 2025, Get Ready Queensland (GRQ) took community engagement to new heights, expanding its regional approach for the third year in a row, connecting with flood-impacted regions, and engaging diverse communities.
| 55 community activities across 32 Local Government Areas in Queensland: with councils driving localised initiatives and the GRQ team strategically dividing and conquering, ensuring even the most remote and far-west communities are reached with vital preparedness tips and resilience resources. | |
| Simultaneous launch events in Brisbane and Townsville: two schools were selected based on their risk profiles, community engagement potential, and demographic diversity, ensuring the launch events not only maximised visibility but also reached communities most likely to benefit from preparedness messaging. | |
| Inclusive engagement: the focus prioritised inclusive, targeted engagement, connecting with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, seniors, and fostering intergenerational participation. | |
| Regional focus: delivering events across South West, North and Far North Queensland, ensuring communities most at risk were front and centre. | |
| Johnathan Thurston: visits to Thargomindah and Cunnamulla, drawing huge local crowds and energising conversations about disaster readiness. | |
| If It’s Flooded, Forget It workshop with year 12 students interested in Film & TV careers. | |
| Get Ready@Work: taking disaster preparedness into Queensland Government and Local Government workplaces, equipping employees with practical tools to prepare, respond, and stay resilient, reinforcing how readiness starts at work and in the community. |

Planning for Get Ready Queensland Week 2026?
To support councils in planning ahead for 2026, we’ve added a range of practical, budget-friendly engagement ideas to the Council Hub. These resources are designed to help you deliver meaningful preparedness activities during Get Ready Queensland Week. From community workshops and school-based activities to pop-up stalls and social media campaigns, the Hub provides flexible options that can be tailored to your local context and delivered within existing budgets. We encourage councils to explore these ideas early, build them into forward planning, and use GRQ funding to create consistent, locally led engagement that strengthens community resilience across your region.
Planning ahead for 2026: Social Media
We know from previous Get Ready Queensland Weeks just how powerful social media is in reaching communities, particularly those who may not attend in-person events. Digital channels play a critical role in sharing timely preparedness messages, increasing awareness, and encouraging Queenslanders to take practical steps to get ready.
As councils, emergency services and agencies begin planning for Get Ready Queensland Week 2026, we encourage you to think early about how social media can support your local engagement activities. A strong online presence helps extend the reach of your on-ground efforts and ensures important safety messages are seen by a broader audience.
The GRQ team will support councils with the creation of custom social media tiles tailored to your Local Government Area, helping you promote local events, share preparedness messaging, and amplify your community resilience activities across your channels.
Early planning will help maximise impact and ensure your community is ready, informed and connected in the lead-up to GRQ Week 2026.
We suggest requesting custom social media tiles for a 2026 LGA Get Ready Queensland Week Campaign as early as possible and no later than July 2026.
