Get Ready Queensland Week 2025
Monday 6 – Sunday 12 October 2025
Queensland weather keeps us on our toes - from cyclones in the north to floods in the south-east and bushfires out west. That’s why every year, Get Ready Queensland Week is your chance to stop, think, and take some simple steps to get prepared.
From Monday 6 to Sunday 12 October, communities right across our state will be coming together for a week of activities designed to help Queenslanders get ready for extreme weather and disasters.
Queensland, it's the perfect time to make your household severe weather emergency plan online.
What’s happening across the state?
Councils, schools, and community groups will be running events big and small - so there’ll be something near you, whether you’re in the city, the bush, or on the coast. Look out for:
Community expos and preparedness stalls - a chance to chat with emergency services, see demonstrations, and pick up practical resources.
School workshops - helping the next generation of Queenslanders learn about resilience in fun and hands-on ways.
Emergency services displays - meet your local SES volunteers, fire crews, and first responders and learn how they help in times of disaster.
Local media and social campaigns - keep an eye on your council or community Facebook pages for preparedness tips.
Why Get Ready Week matters
Queenslanders know that it’s not a matter of if severe weather hits - but when. We’ve seen how a summer storm can cut power for days, how a cyclone can isolate communities, or how flash flooding can make roads dangerous in minutes.
Make a plan now so you are ready when severe weather is affecting your community. Make your severe weather emergency plan online today.
While you are at it, take time during Get Ready Queensland Week to take all 3 steps to Get Ready.
- Know your risk
- Make a plan, and
- Pack an emergency kit.
You can also have a conversation with your family and neighbours about being prepared - it can take minutes, but make all the difference. It’s about protecting what matters most - your home, your pets, and the people you love.
How you can get involved
Here are a few easy ways to join in:
Check in with your local council - see what events are planned in your area.
Follow Get Ready Queensland on Facebook and Instagram - we’ll share highlights and tips throughout the week.
Make a plan - review and update your household emergency plan, and chat to your neighbours about their plans.
Get the kids involved - encourage them to bring home what they’ve learned from school activities so preparedness becomes part of family life.
If you’re one of our Queensland councils, we’d love to see you out in the community with us this year. Check out the Get Ready Queensland Stakeholder and Supporter Kit to find out how your council can get involved. And don’t forget to share your events with us so we can add yours to our ever growing statewide list.
We'll see you at a Get Ready Queensland event near you - find one below.
